How the Book Ends

How the book ends
are arranged
attracts me more
than what might be between them.
I don’t look.

How the book ends
is a mystery
that I cherish:
the mystery of not knowing
how things end.

  1. Oh, I like this one–and I’m with you about how the book ends. I’m always boggled by people who tell me they read the end of the book first to decide if they want to read it.

  2. oh good one, Alan. You are right , that is the way it should be. However it depends the book if I read the end first … before I read the whole book. I dont like unhappy endings :-)

  3. I always read the end first as I am a literary critic and need to analyse how well the writer builds a story. I also have a world-class collection of ornamental bookends. It’s not much of a life but I’m used to it …
