Once upon a time I could read French well enough to enjoy trying to. The first thing I remember enjoying was Guy de Maupassant’s “La Ficelle”. This week I found it on the web. I could still read it, not perfectly, but well enough to enjoy it. I had forgotten all of the story except its title. The story was sadder than I had expected.
I confess I was not aware of it. Quel dommage! I looked it up and read the English version. Now that I’ve read that version, perhaps I should try the French.
